Star Shiner Initiative will co-host a screening of the independent film Nikah with Forum for American-Chinese Exchange at Stanford (FACES) on February 21st from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. We invite Uyghur and Chinese diaspora living in the Bay Area to join us for this screening. The film’s cast and crew are composed entirely of exiled Uyghurs, and it presents a tense, delicate, and occasionally humorous portrayal of a society falling apart and collapsing. After the screening, there will be an opportunity for the audience to engage in a discussion and share their thoughts.

“Extraordinary. Filmed in France with a cast and crew of exiled Uyghurs, Nikah is a glimpse into the shattering of a culture, and shows us the beauty of Uyghur communal life. It is astonishing in its restraint, in the way it remains true to a ground level view of what it looked and felt like to be on the verge of internment. Nikah is a portrait of the impossible becoming reality.” —The China Project
